Waqar Anwar is the founder and sole developer of NutritionFactLabel. He is a packaging designer who built the generator after years of rebuilding Nutrition Facts panels by hand for retail packaging.
Background in packaging design
Waqar Anwar has spent his career in packaging design, working through the agency Proton Effect on retail programmes for the North American market. Products he designed sit on Dollar Tree shelves across the United States, and his packaging work includes programmes for WD-40 Canada and Grainger Canada.
On those projects the Nutrition Facts panel was the part that went wrong most often. It is a specification, not a design choice: 21 CFR 101.9 fixes the type sizes, rule weights, mandatory nutrients and rounding. NutritionFactLabel started as the tool he built for his own briefs.
What he builds and maintains
Waqar Anwar wrote and maintains the NutritionFactLabel label engine: the 152 label formats across 114 countries, the rounding and Daily Value logic, the regulation library and the free tools. NutritionFactLabel is a one-person product, so the person who answers support is the person who wrote the code.

How he writes about labelling rules
Regulation pages and guides on NutritionFactLabel are written from the primary documents, such as eCFR, the Federal Register, EUR-Lex and the Canada Gazette, not from summaries. Each format page names the document it was reviewed against and links to it. The full process, including how to report an error, is in the editorial guidelines.
