Frequently asked questions
Do I need to sign up to try it?
No. You can build a complete label at /app without an account. Sign up when you want to save labels and build a library; upgrade for more label formats and file types.
Are the labels FDA-compliant?
The generator implements the format and rounding rules from 21 CFR 101.9, covers all 12 FDA-recognized formats, and includes FALCPA + FASTER Act allergen handling. That said, regulatory compliance is the manufacturer's responsibility; we always recommend a final review by a qualified regulatory professional before printing commercial labels.
Where does the nutrient data come from?
USDA FoodData Central: the authoritative public database the FDA itself references. We query it live when you search for an ingredient. A free API key from USDA lifts the rate limit; paste it in the cog icon next to the search box.
Can I import a recipe I already have?
Yes. The More menu (top right of the workbench) has Import JSON. Any .nutrilabel.json file exported from another NFL session loads the full recipe + label state.
What file formats can I export?
PDF, PNG, SVG, JPG, EPS, and AI. Multi-select in the Export modal and you get a single zip.
What happens to my labels if I cancel my subscription?
Your saved labels are never deleted. If you downgrade, you'll still be able to view and re-export them in the formats available on your new plan.
Do you support Spanish / bilingual labels?
Yes. The Bilingual format renders the Nutrition Facts block in English and Spanish side-by-side per FDA dual-language specimen.
Can my team collaborate on a recipe?
Saved recipes have shareable URLs (/app/<id>) so anyone with access to your account can continue from where you left off. Native multi-user collaboration is on the roadmap.
