QUID Calculator
Calculate the quantitative ingredient declaration (QUID) for UK and EU labels. Enter each ingredient's weight at the mixing bowl, tick the ones that need a percentage, and copy the finished ingredient list.
Leave blank when nothing is lost; percentages then use the total ingoing weight.
Ingredients: Wheat flour, Butter, Strawberries, Sugar, Eggs.
Percentages are of the total ingoing weight (1100 g). Listed heaviest first, by weight at the time of use.
| Ingredient | Weight (g) | Share | Declare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wheat flour | 400 | 36% | not required |
| Butter | 250 | 23% | not required |
| Strawberries | 200 | 18% | not required |
| Sugar | 150 | 14% | not required |
| Eggs | 100 | 9.1% | not required |
How QUID percentages work
When a percentage is required
Quantitative ingredient declaration applies when an ingredient appears in the name of the food, is emphasised on the label in words, pictures or graphics, or is essential to characterise the food. A "strawberry tart", a pack saying "made with butter" and a picture of prawns on a fish pie all trigger it for that ingredient.
Ingoing weight, or the finished product
The percentage normally reflects the ingredient's weight at the time of use, out of the total weight of all ingredients. Where the food loses moisture in processing, such as baking, it is related to the finished product instead; if that comes to more than 100%, the label states the grams of the ingredient used to make 100 g of the product.
Volatile ingredients and concentrated or dehydrated ingredients that are reconstituted have their own rules in Annex VIII of Regulation 1169/2011.
Where the percentage goes
The figure appears in or next to the name of the food or in the ingredient list beside the ingredient. Ingredients are listed in descending order of their weight at the time of use.
