Brazil Front-of-Pack "Lupa" Checker
Check whether a food sold in Brazil needs the magnifying-glass "ALTO EM" warning for added sugars, saturated fat or sodium under ANVISA RDC 429/2020 and IN 75/2020, with a layout proof of the panel.
Use values for the food as sold, or as prepared where the label declares the prepared food.
Warn for added sugars: ALTO EM AÇÚCAR ADICIONADO.
| Nutrient | Yours | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Added sugars | 18 g | 15 g or more |
| Saturated fat | 4 g | 6 g or more |
| Sodium | 320 mg | 600 mg or more |
Layout proof, not print artwork. IN 75/2020 sets the symbol's models, proportions and minimum size for your display area; build the final file from its annex. Some foods are exempt (for example fruits, vegetables, and milk without added sugar); check the exemption annex.
Brazil's front-of-pack nutrition warning
Three warnings, one symbol
Since ANVISA's labelling reform (RDC 429/2020 and IN 75/2020), foods high in added sugars, saturated fat or sodium carry a magnifying-glass symbol on the front of the pack reading "ALTO EM" followed by the nutrients concerned.
Limits per 100 g or 100 mL
The warning applies at 15 g of added sugars, 6 g of saturated fat or 600 mg of sodium per 100 g of solid food, and at half those levels - 7.5 g, 3 g and 300 mg - per 100 mL of liquid.
Exemptions and the symbol itself
Some foods are exempt, such as fruits and vegetables, and foods whose only source of the nutrient is listed in the exemption annex. The symbol's models, proportions and minimum sizes are set in IN 75/2020, so use this page for the decision and the annex for the final artwork.
