USDA FoodData Central
FDA 21 CFR 101.9
FDA rounding rules, applied for you
The rollup produces precise raw values; the label renderer then applies the declaration rules of 21 CFR § 101.9(c): increment ladders for fats and carbohydrates, 5 mg steps for sodium, whole-milligram cholesterol, and insignificant-source thresholds so trace amounts print as "0g" where the regulation requires it.
Curious how %DV is derived? The same math powers our free Daily Value calculator.
Manual overrides always win
Sometimes you have lab analysis data, a co-packer's spec, or a regulator's feedback that should trump the database math. Click any value on the label preview and type; your edit sticks, and the automatic rollup will never silently overwrite a field you have touched. Overridden values are visibly flagged so you always know which numbers are computed and which are yours.
Want to detach an ingredient from its USDA profile entirely and key in nutrients by hand? One click unlinks it. Everything (computed values, overrides, and unlinked rows) is preserved by cloud autosave, so the state you left is the state you return to.
Claim alerts while you formulate
Thinking of printing "low sodium" or "high in protein" on the front of the pack? Those phrases are regulated nutrient content claims under FDA 21 CFR § 101.13, each with numeric thresholds per serving. As your recipe changes, NFL flags which claims your current numbers support and warns when a reformulation quietly pushes you over a limit, before the packaging is printed, not after.
You can also stress-test any claim directly with the standalone claim validator, and check the fine print in our labeling FAQ. Formulate, check, adjust, all in the same screen.
